Q: What are your roles as a Senior Adviser?
A: As an Senior Adviser I do scouting at the amateur and professional levels, as well as recommending trades.

Q: Many people consider you to be one of the best General Manager’s of all-time, your thoughts on this statement?
A: I have been very fortunate to have a lot of good people to work with throughout the years. Just like a manager, you are only as good as the people around you.

Q: And updates on Joe(Blanton), J.C.(Romero), or Brad(Lidge)?
A: Brad and J.C. are making progress and are probably a few weeks away. Joe is about t wo weeks away as well.

Q: Do you see this 2010 team being better than 09? 08?
A: Yes, while we only got to have Cliff(Lee) for a portion of the season, we will have Roy(Halladay) for a whole season this year. (Placido)Polanco is one of the better two hole hitters in all of baseball, and I think Cole will have a better year than last. I believe it is slightly better than 08.

Q: Has Roy had an affect on any of the other players?
A: He has just by the way he handles and conducts himself and his business on the field and in the clubhouse. He is quiet and leads by example.

Q: What would you say is your most successful trade as a General Manager?
A: I would say it was the trade I made with the San Diego Padres(December 5, 1990), where I sent Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez to San Diego for Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar.

Q: What do you like most about the Philadelphia organization?
A: The Phillies have a very good scouting and player development system, and they are very consistent with what they do through Minor League Baseball. They care a lot about their employees, and make sure they are all happy.

Kyle Kendrick was very shaky in his first start, and the offense wasn’t able to pull out the win after tying it up in the 6th. They stranded both Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in the late innings. Jayson Werth set a career high with three doubles. Polanco, Utley, and Rollins all added doubles as well. The top four of the Phillies lineup Rollins, Polanco, Utley, and Howard all continues their hot start, with averages of .455, .500, .417, and .400 respectively. Werth got going and has his average up to .308. Ibanez and Shane have averages of .091 and 1.54 respectively. Nelson Figueroa recently acquired off of waivers from the Mets gave up the go ahead run and got the loss.

Lehigh Valley(AAA) 0-1
The IronPigs blew a ninth inning lead to lose 8-7. Chris Duffy had a double, and Dewayne Wise and Paul Hoover each had triples. Hoover also had three runs batted in, with Bocock, Ransom, and Thompson all adding one. Brian Mazone was hit hard in his first start, going five innings and allowing four earned runs. Mike Zagurski gave up two earned runs in a third of an inning, and got a hold. Jason Anderson threw two thirds of an inning, letting one of Zagurski’s runs score, and got a blown save. Ehren Wasserman recorded the loss as well as a blown save. Alexander Concepcion threw two perfect innings, striking out two.

Reading(AA) 0-1
What many to believe to be the most talented of all of the Phillies MiLB teams, lost 10-5 last night. The super outfield of Berry, Gillies, and went a combined 1-11 with Brown collecting a double, and Brown and Gillies knocking a run in apiece. While light-hitting players Freddy Galvis and Tuffy Gosewisch went a combined 4-8 with two doubles, and two runs scored. Vance Worley got the loss, getting knocked around for four earned runs in 4.1 innings. Matt German, Michael Schwimer, and B.J. Rosenberg didn’t fare much better giving up six earned runs in 3.2 innings. Schwimer struck out four in two innings though, a good sign. Chance Chapman added a scoreless ninth.

Clearwater(High-A)  1-0
The biggest in the organization yesterday, demolishing the Dunedin Blue Jays, doing so behind an amazing pitching effort by Austin Hyatt and some power from Matt Rizzotti and Fidel Hernandez. J.C. Romero started the game throwing a perfect first, and that is when Blue Jays hitters learned why they should fear Austin Hyatt as he went on to throw 5.1 perfect innings before allowing a runner to reach on a wild pitch on a strikeout. In all he threw six innings, striking out seven, and allowing two runs on two hits. Tyson Brummett closed out the game with two scoreless innings. The Threshers started the hitting parade in the fourth inning by scoring four, three of which came on a bases clearing double by 9-hole hitter Fidel Hernandez. In all, Hernandez had four runs batted in, more than the whole Dunedin team. Matt Rizzotti crushed a solo homer, and Brian Gump added two runs batted in, and a double. The 4-9 hitters went a combined 13-26 with three walks, eight runs batted in, thee doubles, and nine runs scored. While the top three in the lineup went a combined 3-16 with a double, two runs batted in, a walk, and a run. Troy Hanzawa and Rizzotti went a combined 6-8 with six runs scored, six runs knocked in, a walk, a double, and a homer.

Lakewood(A) 1-0
Jonathan Villar, Jiwan James, and Jeremy Barnes went a combined 7-15 with three doubles and three runs batted in and Sebastian Valle added a double and a run batted in. Nicholas Hernandez gave up six runs, only two earned in six innings, while striking out four and walking none, and picking up the win. Siulman Lebron got the hold with two scoreless innings, striking out three.           

He made the first batter look awkward when he hit a dribble to third. Then he struck out the second batter, and made the third batter, Travis d’Arnaud, who the Phillies traded for Roy Halladay, fly out to center.

He made two guys swing and miss, and look bad doing it, which makes you think he is close to coming back. He probably still needs at least 2-3 outing before he returns to Philly.

He threw eight pitches, and then told Pitching Coach in Charge of Pitching Rehab Carlos Arroyo that he wanted to throw more, and he threw about 15 pitches in the bullpen.

The Blue Claws enter the 2010 season as champs. They lost a good amount of the players from the 09 club, as well as their manager. He should challenge for the title again this year with a punch of solid position players and some lively arms.

The Blue Claws will be led by prospects Colvin, Valle, Hewitt, and Santana. Colvin was arrested over the offseason, Valle is considered to be the Phils top catching prospect, and really prospect at that position. Hewiit is coming into what many believe to be a make or break year, or he might get passed up on the depth chart. And Santana is extremely young but extremely talented.

The Threshers will field a 2010 team that will look very familiar to the 2009 team. The five main differences are no Domonic Brown, Kyle Drabek, Yohan Flande, Freddy Galvis, or Drew Naylor.

Key returnees include Matt Rizzotti, Chris Kissock, Fidal Hernandez, and Steve Susdorf.
The Threshers will also have three players currently on the Phillies 40-man roster in RHP Jesus Sanchez(Only player remaining from Abreu deal), J.C. Ramirez(One of three players Lee was traded for), and Joel Naughton.

Some of the guys on my top prospects list will be residing in Clearwater for at least a month or two in Sanchez, Ramirez, Tim Kennelly, and Anthony Gose.

The Threshers have a good mix of players that finished .500 in the FSL, and won the championship in Lakewood. 2009 Lakewood Manager Dusty Wathan will manage the Threshers this year.

He didn’t make the Mets pitching staff, and now will most likely replace Andrew Carpenter on the Phillies active roster. If he does good enough, when Romero and Lidge come back, it might be a tough decision as to who should stay on the roster. Although it would probably be Figueroa and Bastardo leaving.

In his seven year career he has a 4.54 ERA in 377 innings.

Q: How long do you expect to be here in Clearwater?
A: Probably about another two weeks.

Q: Where do you expect yourself to be this year? 08 or 09 form?
A: I expect to be a lot closer to 08 than 09. If I feel healthy I believe I can be close to 08. And I feel very healthy after this.

Q: What do you think of the game yesterday?
A: The guys were crushing the ball, it was a great game.

After his bullpen session he went out and did some long toss with J.C. Romero. If the Phillies hit like they did last night though for the next couple of weeks, Lidge will be able to take his time.
