Roy Halladay

Throughout his entire career Roy Halladay has pitched in the toughest division in baseball, the AL East. He faced offensive juggernauts Boston, New York, Tampa Bay, and even Baltimore. And before you say well Baltimore isn’t an offensive juggernaut, look at who they have had recently. Aubrey Huff, Brian Roberts, Adam Jones, Ty Wiggington, and Nick Markakis. Now that may not be great but is a lot better than say the Nationals lineup that consists of Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman. Even if you don’t believe it is harder to pitch the AL East based off of a Orioles-Nationals argument here are some career lines of the best hitters in the AL East against Roy:

Derek Jeter: .219/.269/.274, 16-73, 4 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 5 BB, 20 SO
Carlos Pena: .259/.267/.442, 11-43, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 13 SO
Alex Rodriguez: .298/.355/.439, 17-57, 5 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 4 BB, 10 SO
David Ortiz: .273/.326/.511, 24-88, 6 2B, 0 3B, 5 HR, 22 RBI, 6 BB, 12 SO
Dustin Pedroia: .161/.212/.323, 5-31, 2 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SO
Manny Ramirez: .266/.314/.443, 21-79, 5 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 6 BB, 17 SO
Aubrey Huff: .264/.322/.283, 14-53, 1 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 4 BB, 10 SO
Gary Sheffield: .176/.200/.353, 3-17, 0 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO
Jason Giambi: .270/.324/.429, 17-63, 1 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 4 BB, 13 SO

I really think Roy is going to dominate the NL East this year. The only ones he has to worry about are Hanley, Wright, Reyes, Chipper, Dunn, and Zimmerman.

Day 1 Recap

The baseball season is underway as Day 1 is over and it is now Day 2. Day 1 started late and ended early but the guys worked hard while it lasted. Here is a player by player recap:

Roy Halladay- He fielded every ground ball perfectly and blended in well with the other guys.

Cole Hamels- Hamels was faster off the mound and look like he said some extra pep in his step.

Phillippe Aumont- He is HUGE, the biggest pitcher I have ever seen live.

Carlos Ruiz- He was making solid contact during BP and locating his hits very well, unlike most of the other catchers.

Tuffy Gosewisch- Out of all the catchers in camp he hit the best during BP.

Off season Recap

This is the Phils OFF THE FIELD Off season Recap. None of this stuff will have to do with baseball. Here it is:

Jimmy Rollins, 31, the Phils lead-off hitter and spark plug got married to  Johari Smith in the Caymans. While they were there and earthquake hit the island.

Shane Victorino, 29, attended the Grammy’s for a second consecutive year. He also attended some notable MMA events such as UFC 109. On top of that he released his own MMA-style shirt with Silver Silver. It is selling for $40.00, and can be purchased at http://www.silverstarnow.com/AspDotNetStorefront/p-356-shane-victorino-flyin-hawaiian.aspx

Ryan Howard, 30, the towering Phils slugger attended Super Bowl 43, with Eagles cheerleader and 2nd grade teacher Krystle Campbell. Everybody thinks they are dating.

Charlie Manuel, 66, the Phils skipper who many believe to be the best Phillies Manager ever slimmed down over the off season.  As last reported he has lost 56, and is down to 230 pounds.

Steve Smith, the former Phillies third base coach, who was fired will be a contestant on the Amazing Race with daughter, Allie.

Oh an former Phillies Gary Matthews Sr., Mitch Williams, and Larry Andersen all gathered in Brighthouse networks field to dress like old fashioned judges and drink beer. OR did the drinking beer part come first?

Phillies departures and Predictions

We lost a lot of talent this off season, but we also lost a lot of bad
attitudes. Brett Myers signed with former Phillies GM Ed Wade and the
Astros, mainly because Ed Wade stockpiles former Phillies. As you may
recall Myers was not huge with the fans due to some off the field
incidents and lack of performance on the field. Chan Ho Park is still a
free agent because he seems to think he can make it as a starter….HA!
Scott Eyre has retired because the Phillies wouldn’t offer him a major
league contract. Scott will be missed as he brightened everyone’s day
up. Miguel Cairo is a Red now, thank God. Cliff Lee and his wanted
$20+M salary is gone to Seattle. Pedro Feliz has taken his slick
fielding, soft batting self to Houston as well.

My predicted
2010 Phillies roster(Two players at same position will be most
competitive although player on left will most likely win).

I’m back

I took the offseason off everybody but I am back now that Spring Training is about to get started. I live in Clearwater, FL about two blocks from the stadium and I also work there. I will be updating this as often as I can with Phillies news.

Wow has it been a busy offseason for Ruben and the rest of the front office. We finally got Halladay! And to show just how hard of a worker he is, I have seen him at Brighthouse a couple of times, and he runs on the trail here everyday. I have a feeling that it will come down to Roy and Lincecum for Cy Young this year and Halladay wil have at least 20 wins. Giving up Drabek, Taylor, and D’Arnaud but we got back Aumont, Gillies, and Ramirez. Aumont is a natural freak. He is 6’7 and will probably slot in behind Roy and Cole in a few years. Gillies is legally deaf but had an amazing year last year, and I see Ramirez either at the back end of our rotation or in the bullpen in the coming years. I think dealing Lee was genius, he didn’t put up the numbers he should have in the regular season, he wanted CC type money, and in his career has one good major league season to his name.

Ruben the signed fan favorites Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, and Joe Blanton to three years extensions, at what I believe to be below market value. Shane is one of the best fielders, has one of the best arms, and is amazing in the box and on the bases. Chooch is one of the best defensive catchers and has been improving in the box, and Blanton is a perfect starter to slot in somewhere in the 3-5 slots.

He got rid of light hitting Bruntlett, for light hitting (but better hitting) utility man Juan Castro. He added back up catcher Brian Schneider previously of the Nats and Mets. He brough Placido Polanco back as an upgrade at 3B. Ross Gload is now on as a more consistent bat bench to pair up with Greg Dobbs. Brian Bocock has been brought in to create some competition in the infield. The two Cubans, Jose Contreras and Danys Baez are now in town. Former Yankees Cody Ransom and Freddy Guzman have switched over to red pinstripes, while Perfect Game Saving Dewayne Wise is here now, and Wilson Valdez, the former Met is now a Phillie as well.

Our next entry will focus on lineups and rotations as well as what we lost this offseason.
